Re: Changing from Bt Infinity to Plusnet fibre ?'s

[re: kasg] [link to this post]

My reasons of thinking of moving to another service provider are due to decreasing connection speeds and BT don't want to do anything about it and I'm sick of talking to an Indian call centre that's not got a clue when it comes to deviating away from their scripted sheet of answers. When I first had Infinity installed I was connecting at the full 40mb available at the time with download speeds of 38, after about 3 months this decreased to 37, 12 months later it was down to 33 and now 2 half years on it now down to 25, they think anything above 12mb is acceptable. By switching providers I was hoping for New equipment, BT openreach engineer visit, resetting of the equipment at the exchange for the 10 day or 48hr line settlement and an added bonus some providers are now cheaper than BT. I'm currently on the 76mb package and to reduce this down to their 38mb package they want me to enter into another 18 months contract, not likely with the current situation.

Certainly several people have reported painless FTTC migrations in the past but perhaps I haven't seen any recently.
Myself being one of them, from IDNet FTTC to Plusnet FTTC. No engineer visit needed.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,website and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 54.2/15.2Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

I thought the problem was switching both voice & FTTC services from an LLU line AND wanting to keep the existing landline number for the voice service.
There can also be problems moving from SMPF (shared ADSL LLU) such as O2/Be if the landline is also with them on WLR.

That's because Plusnet do it in the wrong sequence frown.

They like to move the broadband first, then the landline about three weeks later. Which easily goes wrong, more with Be than O2 I think, because you aren't allowed to have their landline if you don't have their broadband. So the landline can get a Cease order on it from them making it impossible for Plusnet to take it over.

This will not be an issue with the OP's BT connection.

The only new equipment will be the Plusnet-supplied router, which is unlikely to affect your speeds. With a bit of luck you will get a DLM reset, which will restart the training. In my experience Plusnet are pretty good at dealing with speed problems; I had one just under a month ago, Plusnet got an engineer sent out, everything was checked out, DLM reset and speeds have held up ever since, in fact the longest I have ever been on fast path.
