O2 dial-up to PlusNet ADSL

I'm helping a friend to move from O2 dial-up (she's an elderly lady trying to get up to date) and phone to PlusNet ADSL broadband and phone. I've heard tales of problems when O2 customers having broadband already try to move away to PlusNet. It seems that O2 then tend to cease the line. Would this still apply when there is no broadband on the line already? PlusNet will install the broadband first, several weeks ahead of the phone switch. Will this upset O2?

Until plusnet submit the WLR (phone line) transfer O2 will know nothing about her getting broadband.

So no worries about a cease, unless someone tells O2 they want to cease/cancel their phone line.

She will get a letter from O2 asking to confirm the phone line move

That's very helpful. Thank you. We won't be telling O2 that we want to cease or cancel the phone line! Presumably she will need to phone O2 in response to their letter - probably best not to mention broadband at all, then.

The usual practice is to transfer the phone line then place the broadband order (about 7 - 10 days before it is active) and I don't know if a simultaneous provide is possible under these circumstances.
So it might be worth asking if Plusnet can provide a temporary dial up facility if the O2 dial up stops once the line is transferred. I have no idea whether the dial up is linked to having the phone line with O2 or is independent

PlusNet say that the broadband will be activated in 5-7 working days and then the phone service will be transferred 2-3 weeks later. In which case, if all goes according to plan, there should be an Internet connection throughout.
Still, it's useful to have backup.

Age is catching up with you Jim. BT, Plusnet and the Post Office include 0845 and 0870 calls to name a few that I have used. That is what I like about forums, you can always pick up some incorrect info!
