Before I contact Plusnet...

Before I contact Plusnet, I thought I'd post here and ask the question...

My mum is with Plusnet and after reading the postings here, a lot of you spoke of good download speed but at very low upload speed, which turns out that the upload speed has been capped and has to be uncapped manually.

She has around 14meg download speed but for upload, it's around 0.3meg

As she is not computer techie, would it be possible for me to contact Plusnet & give them her username and have them to uncap it for me/my mum?

I am happy to be PM'ed by a Plusnet staff from here and will be happy to share details.

Easiest way is to raise a ticket on you Mum's account - I assume you have the password - here https://www.plus.net/wizard/?p=wizard&page=22883&wiz...

I hope that you are not going to make a habit of accepting customer orders via PM on this site. I would hate for someone to find my user name and request a change to my line for which I was not involved.

Maybe it's ok if the changes are only to the benefit of the customer? If there is anything detrimental (ie increased contract lengths, etc) then definitely should not be done without proper user authentication.

If you'd rather we changed our policy to only accept ticket IDs and work from those that'd be fine with me, I can pass it on - not sure that would suit everyone here, but as you say it would be more secure.

Anyone else have any thoughts on that?

ETA: Ideally I think a common sense approach (I hope very much like how we do things now) would be better, where simple things can be done more quickly and easily following a conversation in thread/via PM. As ian72 says though we'd certainly not be doing anything that could be detrimental or involving taking money without either a ticket or a phone conversation (following the correct DPA process of course).
