Plusnet router opinions

Hi

Looking forward to fibre install next week and have just been sent the router.

It is the Technicolor TG582n and have read a few reviews and doesn't sound great .

Should I be expecting to buy new router or is the technicolour generally fine.

67/18 fibre estimate, should I expect most of this speed with wireless or only with wired? (4 bedroom 70's semi, positioned on landing.)

Wall mountable?

It's OK wired, many people have issues with it wireless.

Yes, it is wall mountable.

I have the same router (albeit till next week when i change to plusnet) and wireless is no problem at all, nothing ever disconnects.
Maybe it's the plusnet firmware they use ?

Ok so its not just PN that use them then , who were you movin from?

Hopefully the bad reviews were the vocal unlucky few.

Moving from 02 on the 16th to FTTC

You only have three ports available on it as the fourth is used to connect the BTO modem.

I had two routers replaced and still had issues with it and use a Netgear instead. It continued to drop me out even on wired and this was usually when I was gaming or streaming a movie.

Apart from that I find the service itself excellent

Ok , if I need to replace I assume I just need a wireless router without modem due to the OR modem fttc?

Also should I get most of speed on short wireless?

From TT though whose router has been fine but 0.8mb is hardly pushing it !!

Thats correct basically a cable modem however there are a few routers out there that can be used as the vdsl modem but I believe they are quite pricey.

On short wireless you shouldnt have a problem but how short is short and many factors can influence the wireless signal. Other problems can arise from the area being swamped in wireless signals and free channels being a problem. I am sure there are more qualified forum users here that will advise you accordingly

If these standard ones prove rubbish any model number we can search for that are known to work well?
