New actication. Question on router ports.

Hi.
After almost going to Plusnet Fibre a year ago, I stuck it out with O2 but due to sky takover I made the move and I am now due to be activated tomorrow (15/5). I have left a post a plusnet forum if any staff could check that there's no problems with activation date or account?
Also, as I understand it the two devices are connected via ethernet ports, leaving only three ports available. As I need four I wondered what is the best way to gain more....are there five port routers or would a Switch best suit my needs? How do they actually work in this situation?

An Ethernet switch is what you want.

Most "cable" routers have four LAN ports and a WAN port, the Plusnet one is a modified ADSL router where one of the LAN ports has been converted to a WAN port, hence only 3. Get a switch, plug it in to one of the LAN ports and it will just work, e.g.

I am now all connected after a few final switches were thrown and had a question about placing of the plusnet router. Ideally I'd like to put it on a shelf behind my TV so the ethernet cables don't pull on it too much as it's pretty light. Would this proximity cause any problems in regard to interference? The BT device is away from the TV.

The wireless signal may not be that great if the TV is blocking things, but with Openreach modem away from TV, ethernet based devices should be fine.

Is there any way to get stats from either of these devices? Can't see anything useful with the plusnet router and the BT modem seems the man in the middle with nothing to say. I have the ECI model....any way to access the stats within? I'm guessing locked down?

The BT modems are locked down, so unless you hack it then no stats.

Buying one that is already unlocked may help satisfy curiousity
