I think i might have a dodgy port on the plusnet router.
I was using a samknows broadband monitor and they said remove it as there is a newer one, so i unplugged it and wired the pc direct to the number 2 port on the plusnet router, the speed went right down to 2.34 mb.Now, unplugging the pc and replugging it shouldn't alter the d/l surely?
I have moved the cable to number 1 port and my speed is increasing again.

The jump in speed is amazing! That kind of result (probably somewhere between 43 and 45) ought to be achievable almost all the time.

As every report for your IP Profile remains at 47.43, it looks like there has been no particular re-sync of your VDSL2 connection to the cabinet - no change to FEC, interleaving, speed or (probably) latency.

That is a hint that perhaps the problem doesn't lie in the copper+VDSL segment of your connection (but the errors detected yesterday were certainly significant). Your finding of a dodgy port on the router may be the root cause.

Certainly plugging the PC into different ports on the router shouldn't have any impact, unless there is a fault with either the port or cable.

Perhaps you should try connecting with wireless, and see what happens then...

Do you get good wireless tests at, say, speedtest.net too?

If that (and the BT ones) stay consistent while your wired tests go haywire, then you have your answer.

My other suggestion would be to do what Chris is suggesting. You need to be careful, in case it is the cable that is faulty rather than the port.

Yes the wireless are pretty much the same, as you say the wired one is the flakey one.
I shall try all 3 ports.

This test was not conclusive and further testing is required. This might be useful for your Broadband Service Provider to investigate the fault.
If you wish to carry out further tests, please click on 'Continue' button. If not, please close the window using 'Exit' button and contact your ISP for further assistance with these results.
