Re: New Home ADSL

Although it is a new property, I suggest that you do a Quiet Test if available.

Plug preferably a corded phone in to the Test Socket where the Phone Line comes in to the house, by removing the Faceplate.

Dial 17070, followed by Option 2 on most (Option 4 on SKY).

Also re-try with an ADSL Splitter in the Test Socket.

Then try again with the Faceplate in position and no Splitter.

If you hear significant noise, "snap, crackle and pop", odd tones on the first two tests, report a faulty PHONE Line without mentioning Broadband.

If noise is heard on the third test only, try to replace the Faceplate.

==================================

Apart from anything else, it is worth establishing and noting the state of the Phone Line now, just as you would read the Electricity Meter etc.

Thanks for that!
Think ive found a strange twist in the tale!

Router was next to plasma TV...
Noticed that when TV was off internet was OK

Moved router downstairs into master socket, removed faceplate for extra measure, and router is in test socket:

Much better than it was, although still doesnt explain the low upload - capped maybe?

Yes, ask for it to be uncapped.

Yes Plusnet STILL automatically cap new customers upload to 448 and it often then syncs a tiny bit under (we see 443 very frequently). Bob Pullen recently posted on their private plusnet.service.customer-feedback group:
All new provides default to 448kbps upstream. This is the result of early test results from limited ADSL2+ trials that suggested the increased upstream could affect the downstream. In reality (and theory) this isn't really the case though.

Some ADSL2+ upgrade journeys will now place customers on an uncapped product by default. The signup journey is one of the remaining places this needs to be changed.

Let me know if you encounter any problems getting it uncapped (although it's very unlikely to be having any influence on the Firefox problem you describe.
I wonder if it would be appropriate for you to post a sticky in here advising PN users that if their upload on ADSL2 is 448 or just under they should contact PN to ask for it to be uncapped.
