I just got unlimited fiber installed today and it's very slow for downloads all day. The BT speedtest is fine, speedtest.net, BBC iPlayer speed test all give around 45Mbit which is great.
However outside these areas the speed drops rapidly to 6-8mbit max, no matter ftp, ssh , http, vpn or a virtual machine it's around 8Mbit. I tried speedtest files from random isps and hosting companies and also my own colo server and they are all ADSL speed.
Grabbing the same files using a colo server and another cheap server all the way in america they get to 1Gbit and stay there happily, again and again.
The bt speed test gives me
Download speedachieved during the test was - 45.87 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 16 Mbps-68.5 Mbps .
Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 68.5 Mbps
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 15.38Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps
I don't expect plusnet to provide me with the perfect network, but what is going on with filtering or traffic management outside akami, iplayer type affairs. I would have stayed with BE/SKY adsl as I can already watch iplayer and youtube ok in HD with 8Mbit so is FTTC the right product for me and is there anything i can do to fix or test this further, something obvious I'm missing ?
Thanks
