Wht not just register a simple domain name at 123-Reg or similar and use email forwarding. It works out at a fiver or so a year and will work with whoever your ISP is without loss of mail on a change.
You can even forward a single in bound email to multiple ISP accounts. I do this to get emails on both my desktop PC and my laptop. If one device fails, I should be able to still read the emails on the other.
