Hi flippery, OK and understood.

Just as an extra piece of troubleshooting, I have temporarily reinstated my old twin handset cordless phone. When I snoop the line on the working handset, the noise is bad but intermittent. So that must have eliminated my new twin handset phone. The noise is coming from ..... !

Sorry - I was in a rush at the time. If you remember I said it's movement in the SN Margins we were after. So in that post I meant the upstream NM had gone up 0.4dB which is quite a lot.

Careful how much messing (disconnections) you do in an hour or so smile. The DLM doesn't like that and often slugs the speed for weeks.

Just before you had the two disconnections I did a long post about a few ideas, and accidentally deleted it before posting.

One important thing in it was to check the ring/bell wire inside the master socket.

Also a good idea to read this page and see if anything there may be relevant.

When the BT engineer was here he replaced the Master Socket and connected a faceplate which has an ADSL filter embedded.

Yes I know. Even when the problem is with the BT kit or PlusNet, the end user always suffers.

Surprised I can post again as over the past hour my connection has gone up and down like a yoyo.

Ring wire shouldn't be an issue then. Read the other page though. Just checking there aren't any straws to clutch tongue . As was said, that downstream sync speed is rather poor.

Best connections speeds are always obtained by sync'ing well inside daylight hours. Never near dawn, dusk or during hours of darkness.

As you have said, the ring wire should not be an issue. I have looked at that link about the ring wire and there is rather a lot to take in. Not sure that I want to fiddle with the wiring but with the new Master Socket and the other new bit with the ADSL filter should mean that I do not need to.

Must off to bed. Thanks and goodnight.

Update. Booted PC 7am. Had Broadband/Internet connection. Did a speed test with the same comparatively poor speed. Tried a BT Line Test from https://www.bt.com/consumerFaultTracking/public/faul... The Broadband connection dropped so the test was never completed. That was between 7.15am and 7.20 am.

Contacted PlusNet and the call handler said he saw drops in connection from 9.10pm last night. He could also see numerous drops that I was experiencing late last night. Although two of the drops were caused by me power cycling the Router, he said that he could see about 20 drops.

Have new phone connected from the early hours of today (before 1am). Some very faint line noise at the moment but it was quite loud a bit earlier. Not sure if the stats are useful at the moment but I have posted below. As can be seen from the stats, the connection came back at about 7.25am.

Been told by PlusNet that I will get a telephone call from support today and informed that they do not start until 9am.
