Switching from Origin (Digital Region) to Plusnet

Let's see how this goes then..

I've requested one, but do I need a MAC code, since i'm on a non-bt product at the minute (albeit a BT-based landline..)

Switching only for the fact I can get double the speed for the same/similar price with Plusnet.

Order not placed yet.

It is all down to the distance to the Cab - do Digital Region use their own Cabs
If it is the same Cab or a similar distance then Plusnet Unlimited would be the same speed as Origin Max and probably cheaper

I'm on the 'Inferno' which is capped at 40.

The cabs are next to each other not too far away.

BT checker gives these results

Outlines the scenarios. As its FTTC you are moving to then its option 3, which means you can get a MAC, but as Openreach does not have a route to go from SLU FTTC to GEA-FTTC then it won't be used. In short it will be a cease and provide, which may give some downtime.

I've emailed my 30days notice and requested a MAC code.

The plusnet order has gone through without asking for MAC code for now, engineer date provisionally booked for 19th PM.

Will update as necessary.

And PlusNet system should proceed without a MAC

50/50 on whether that is the correct thing to do, as PlusNet will probably try and use it and then find out that it does not work.

Put it this way, took a little while to get it confirmed in Openreach on the scenarios, and Thales had previously said they cannot create a MAC.

I'd be worried that if you give them a MAC, they'll migrate you to their ADSL2+ product with a subsequent upgrade to the FTTC service. PlusNet may opt for that route as a less 'dangerous' route and if minimal downtime is very important it may be a safer route.

As migrations from Digital Region are such a low volume situation if they go smoothly then I'll be pleased, but expecting issues.

Hopefully PlusNet being so close to Digital Region physically they might be up to speed in the call centres
