Re: Plusnet DNS servers unavailable again

Maybe an idea is to use one ISP server, i.e. primary and leave the secondary to an external like Google (8.8.8.8 or 4.4.4.4) or OpenDNS or someone.

Hi guys, we should have got this into working order at about 2am last night. Hopefully it's looking a lot better now?

Sorry for the problems. frown

yes at about 1.50 am it all came back to life again. But what is going on with your DNS servers???

I would gladly change my DNS to remedy the issue, the problem is there is NO way to change DNS servers on the Thomson Router via the GUI.
So I cannot switch to Google's DNS or even have my secondry DNS as a non Plusnet IP.

Apparently I can Telnet onto the router to change DNS values. Not tried that as had no internet access last night so couldnt get details on how to do it.
Don't even know if Telnet will even work. Will try when I'm @ home.
Failing that I will have to buy a decent router. Any router recomendations welcome smile

You can override the DNS IP on the computer by specifying just the ones you want.

I use two of the fastest servers listed by DNSbench in the router for general family use, my laptop has the four fastest (with no more than two from the same provider)

Given access to four, how does that work within the system?

Hey, you can change the DNS server the TG582 uses by telnetting into it. One of our community forum members posted this:
http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,1244...

which shows how.

Feel free to start a thread here or over there about question if you need a hand.

Harrumph! tongue

But thanks smile. That's what I expected. I just hoped it would be a bit more sophisticated than that.
