An option to explore later in the year perhaps when I'm out of contract on the other copper line

I am sure this can be done.

To be honest, I don't see any advantages in FVA. Maybe there are reduced call costs for the carrier? The one issue with FVA is the need for the battery backup on the ONT so you can make calls in the event of a powercut.

Openreach aren't moving FVA pricing in line with WLR. At the moment, WLR is £7 cheaper per annum (I think).

If there are reduced call costs to the carrier, it's not passed on to the customer

Paying the same as I would if a I had a standard phone line

There is no real advantage to the end user, just a load of grief when trying to get faults fixed as the staff supporting it clearly are not trained on it

I suppose the idea is there will be more features when it becomes a proper retail product - it's still only early to market currently. Then may be any reduction in costs to be passed on to the customer

I've read that BT are going to be starting to install modems that have the battery backup built in - it's quite small and sits quite neatly next to my wall mounted HG612

However, as the official BE forums were only available to BE or ex-BE customers, it does make sense

I think that's right. BE users were used to having a private forum so that's what they've been given. Also, the Pro forum is staffed by "premium" (ex-BE) support staff and they don't want the general rabble taking up their time I suppose wink

ahh bless them, they all a bit special then? smile

To me its censorship, it means I cant view the discussion areas of existing customers to see the pros and cons of such a service and ultimately as a result I wont sign up. ITs why I never signed up to BE and looks like I will never sign up to sky pro. So my 2nd line still looks like it will be aaisp, although I am now considering VM as a backup connection now as that makes more sense for wanting something to use as a backup.

As far as I'm aware, Sky Pro is not available to sign up to - at least as yet

I agree. At the very least, they could make the Pro forum read-only, for non Pro users.

Sky Fibre Unlimited Pro is available to all and falls under the Pro banner (static IP, premium support).

May not be the correct model - it's mounted on the wall and if I take it off it may never go back again

The engineer took the box with him

Will try and find out and I also have an engineer coming on Friday afternoon

edit: Can confirm it is an HG8240

Wish I could access stats, logs etc
