Its only available to some people on low incomes and receiving certain benefits

You can usually get BT Basic if you're claiming one of these benefits:
Income Support
Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
Pensions Credit (Guaranteed Credit)
Employment Support Allowance (Income related)
Universal Credit (and are on zero earnings)

Wish I knew this! No ones ever telling me this! I got Employment Support Allowance (Income related Support Group)

Was BT Basic a new one start from December 2014?

It might be possible to have PN FTTC broadband-only on a BT Basic line...but probably not BT Infinity...

Yes but Plusnet will be charged £2.50 extra a month if that happen.
