Surely that's why you need it unlocked, so you know why?

Or if it's just that it's found it's stable speed for your line length and condition, it's worth having so that you can keep a record of what it should look like so you can see what is going pear-shaped when or if it stops working as it should.

It's always handy to have some baseline readings to compare with when you are trying to find out what is wrong.

I should have asked for a HG612 at the installation but, at the time, the consensus was you should match the modem to the cabinet(mine's ECI) - so I just assumed I should leave it to the engineer.
