Plusnet Fax-2-Email Service Switch Off

On 26th August 2015 our Fax-2-Email service is being switched off. This means you will no longer be able to receive faxes using the service.

Can I carry on using the service?

Yes, you can continue using the service by requesting your account is migrated directly to our trusted supplier - Gradwell Communications.

Another free service of BT Plusnet gone. How long before Plusnet are a shadow of the BT product range? (I think they are there now if you get a current product...no?)

i'm surprised they kept this running so long. I can't see many customers picking plus.net because of it, and ultimately the money can be better spent elsewhere.

It looks as if Plusnet and Gradwell might be gradually winding down their relationship.

I doubt there is much residential customer demand for fax to e-mail service any more and that the majority of the remaining Plusnet fax 2 e-mail numbers have become dormant and are only kept because they incur no additional charges. Meanwhile, those business customers with a need for fax to e-mail will likely procure service from a specialist company, rather than relying on a "free extra".


For most purposes, fax died years ago. For legal matters, my experience is that it's much more common these days to send signed (and, if necessary, encrypted) PDF over e-mail, or via some sort of web / cloud storage solution. The NHS still makes quite a lot of use of fax to send patient data around without any risk of exposing it to the public internet, though even in that application fax is dying out. NHSnet continues to spread and the NHS continues its slow move towards electronic patient records and electronic prescriptions.


We still have a fax line, but I don't think I've received a fax in around three years and I only send one every two months. When I get round to it, I'll port the number to a fax to e-mail provider and cease the line. I can always send fax using a line primarily used for voice.

Indeed, the time may be coming where I port our second voice line to a VoIP provider and cease the physical line.

I signed up to a Fax2e-mail provider on a 30 day free trial, as I needed a fax and I don't have fax machine.

After receiving the fax I needed now all I get is spam fax, offers I have zero interest in.

I frankly cannot see the need or advantage for such a service any longer.

e-mail and PDF is most definitely the way forward.

As each day goes by users of a fax service disconnect their physical machine or de-subscribe from a fax to email service so its certainly a dying functionality only retained by a hard core of users.

A fax has features that email + attachment doesn't have, you certainly know that the recipient has received your message and its dam difficult, if not impossible, to read the transmitted document on the fly.

Furthermore it is a subscription free service that will be around all the while that hardware continues to function and ink is available. You can also use a physical fax machine from any landline and it takes less than 5 minutes to setup by anyone. So the service does have advantages over anything you can get out of a computer.
