downhill speed

Used to be able to get 38mb then dropped to 35 but since bt man snapped wire to phone 05/05/15 and other faults since dropped another 10mband now 22

had bt checking the wiring outside this afternoon an he said nothing wrong with the joints
he reset the line speed back up to 42 download where it was before but on doing speed test no difference
will I have to wait for it to kick in

Edit > It's best to do these tests with a wired connection not wireless.

Could be you are now using a less congested gateway after the connection dropped and reconnected, plenty of reports and discussion about it on this forum and others?

Definitely was a problem with the low speed result from the test when compared to the BT IP profile which was also matched by PN as seen in the portal, so no issue with PN's lagging behind BT's IP profile.

This link should show which gateway your connection is currently using:-

If your connection drops again then you could end up on another gateway which could be good or bad for speeds depending if it gets congested.

Don't forget, as others have pointed out, it isn't a simple case of the gateway we are on. There are several links between the BTW Cloud and the gateways, and the congestion can be in there. From the PN suggestions that it's a BTW problem I think it is the links from the cloud that is the problem.

Gateway hopping has the side-effect of possibly ending up on a different link. I have several time seen on this forum people on the same gateway with completely different experiences at the same time

See SIN 471, the description of the handover and the two diagrams. Figure 2 is the clearer to me. The MAPs/MEPs may be where the congestion is.
