good line speed, terrible browsing!

Hi All
I am finding that using the internet especially in the evening is becoming very difficult as it gets so slow. Usually there is only one machine online at any one time altho we do have a couple of laptops connected by WIFI which suffer exactly the same, the main pc is wired connection direct to the router. Ironically one of the slowest sites seems to be Plusnets own including webmail!

BtW test results:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 8.61 Mbps

Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 0.83 Mbps

problem persists whichever browser is used. Cookies etc are cleared about once a week sometimes longer using CCleaner.
Downloading files is fine and will max out the connection at around 1MB (note capital B!)

Have tried changing to OpenDNS on router but has made little or no difference.

Machine is Windows 7 with all upgrades
8GBRAM and 4th gen i3 processor

I don't believe this a line problem as such, maybe exchange congestion?

Any help/ suggestions appreciated

Could you run a thinkbroadband speed test: http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/speedtest2.html

I'd like to see if there is a difference between the x1 and x6 speed.

What do you think of the upstream IP Profile jelv? It looks strange to me, as he doesn't seem to be on interleaving. Though not obviously relevant.

Quoting 0.83 for the upstream profile on ADSL2+ is fairly standard for the BTw test.
But the Upstream throughput seemed a tad slow on the BTw test, but then Jovin isn't the only user seeing these issues.
However the TBB test seems better.

Plusnet's main site, mail and forum are slow compared to a lot of other sites

As for your line, the stats look pretty good, I wouldn't regard that as being a problem. The CRC errors could be a touch lower but aren't excessive for a non-interleaved line, I've seen a lot worse.

As for congestion, quite possible, could be anywhere on the BT network/backhaul or Plusnet network. But as mentioned the TBB test looks pretty good, not showing any real issues at the time you ran it

It's standard when interleaving is on. Not when it isn't . That's why I thought it odd.

I think you might be getting confused with what appears to be an 888kbps banded upstream speed in a lot of cases with interleaving. I will point out that there are cases where the banded speed of 888 hasn't happened despite Interleaving being on. But I'll have to go and review a load of BTw speedtest posts to be certain of your point.

Herein les the problem, the stats are always pretty good even when web browser performance is terrible so dont really know what else to do....
Since posting line stats etc I have also downloaded Routerstats altho not worked out fully how to drive it yet but it does report that interleaving is on.

High again John, now, IIRC there is a bit of a bug there in RS, incorrectly reporting that.
Have a look at your current stats, if the FEC errors are still zero, then interleaving is still off.
Also the ping times you posted in your OP strongly suggest interleaving is off.

Try running that TBB speed test that jelv posted the link for, at peak times, and especially when you are seeing problems with normal browsing - but ignore the Plusnet sites
