Just to confirm it doesn't happen on the 7490, with either of the latest firmwares. Seems to confirm the issue affects (perhaps even only) the Ikanos chipset the 7390 uses (but the 7490 doesn't)?

Hello Everyone,
Just to confirm that everyone with a Fritz 7930 seems to be having the same problem, I am with IDNet and FTTC has been working faultlessly for the past 3 years until last month. Upload speeds down to 2 or 3 Mb instead of 17Mb.
I ended up buying a new Fritz Box 3490 and latest Firmware back to 18Mb upstream. I think BT must have done some upgrade to the Network causing the issue.
Best regards

Hmmmmm... I'm experiencing the same dramatic reduction in upload speed. I had assumed that it was something to do with my recent downgrade (last week) from Unlimited Fibre Extra to Unlimited Fibre, but it seems others are seeing this also.
My upload speed was 19Mbps, now it's down to 2Mbps. I am using an Asus RT-N56U router, and I have confirmed that the behaviour is a) consistent, and b) occurring on wired as well as wireless.
I'll be giving Plusnet a call tomorrow...

Plusnet Unlimited Fibre is the Openreach 40/2 product, sold as 38/2 due to ASA requirements.
That's the reason for your drop, nothing to do with what the Fritzbox users are seeing.
The indispensable man or woman passes from the scene, and what happens next is more or less the same thing as was happening before.

Ahhhh.. I see! Thanks RobertoS, that makes sense. So I only have myself to blame trying to save a few quid per month

For ' all' 7390s to seemingly be affected around the same time that would seem a logical comclusion.

I ended up buying a new Fritz Box 3490..
[cynic mode] Given that two of you, at least, have ended up buying new Fritz!Boxes the conspiracy theorist in me starts wondering if AVM (having now dropped the 7390 from their model range) have sent a 'self-destruct' code to generate new sales [/cynic mode]

Yeah, I thought of that one too. My Fritz! 7390 was a couple of months out of its 5 year warranty! Frankly now I find it difficult to tell the practical difference in performance between the two models before this latest problem, apart from the 7490 is larger so it didn't fit on the existing wall fixings. (I know the theoretical difference in speeds/capacity, which I could never attain anyway). It doesn't deal with the line any better. I want them to fix the 7390 now I know it's not just a problem with my box, as my first thought was the modem was failing. But as both seem to run on the same firmware, I don't get what the problem is for the Ikanos chipset. I've not come across an entire modem model "losing" a whole batch of tones before, which is not due to a specific line problem. What's happened? I'd like to know. Presumably the sync "handshake" is going awry, but why just on the upload?

Sorry Robertos, but I am on Plusnet Unlimited Fibre according to my Account details and am on the full 80/20, I also have a Fritz 7390 and have not noticed any significant drop in speed in either direction, apart from when the power has gone down, then I have to wait until about 07:00 to get my speed back up to max.

It seems fairly clear there is a problem with low upload speeds affecting the 7390. What is unclear is what other factors have to be present to trigger the problem.
The chances are that the problem is only occurring on a subset of Openreach DSLAMs. Openreach's equipment is heterogeneous - two vendors, several different line cards and no guarantee that there is a single deployed firmware version for each line type of line card.

According to my box, it is Infineon at the other end if that helps
