Recently bought a (BNIB) 7490 from an ebay seller in NL (was selling several) for £120 + P+P, my line has never performed better, certainly appears totally compatible with UK VDSL, I guess you were unlucky.

I get better reported attainable speeds on the new 7490 too. The reporting also looks more sensitive too, in particular many more errors are reported at the Cab and attainable speeds are dynamic.The modem/DSLAM communication therefore looks to be better. I just wonder whether AVM have simply backported the 7490 firmware functionality to the 7390 in this beta, as development seems to have otherwise stopped for the 7390.

But, lines do differ; and my experience is the Fritz! can struggle with analogue CLI and phantom rings. I'm not sure that any third party modem is the best for all lines. It's what works for you.
