Re: Plusnet slowing down ?

I already have reported it to them, but they will not take it further unless the all knowing BT speed test shows it. I finally got it showing reduced speeds on one test and tried to do more last night between 10pm and 10.40pm, but every time I tried to do more and use the Further testing option it would attempt to do a tap3 test so fail.

So hoping those tests are logged and the faults agents can see them after reporting that in the ticket.

That doesn't sound like the same problem then. The issue from last year only affected single-threaded tests and the BT test is multi-threaded. I don't think it ever gave me bad results. It was only ever TBB's test that showed an issue or file downloads.

Depending what the BT test is trying to prove that may or may not be wrong. If its purpose is to determine your maximum line speed then the test is correct. However if it's trying to determine network throughput it's a grey area. Knowing how BT manage their VLANs I'd be inclined to say it's still correct.

What I take issue with therefore is ISPs that insist on using the BT tester as proof of a fault. To my mind that is not a valid use of the tool as it can mask issues that lie within the ISP's network.

PH "must" have issues within the network. I left BT 2 weeks ago when I was getting a steady 72.5mbs 24/7 with 14.4 ms latency,
Plusnet bounce me between 62 & 66mbs throughout the day & my latency has dropped to 7.2.

If BT could provide a perfect steady connection, I don't understand why PN can't ? ! ? !

I've a suspicion BT doesn't leave the BT Wholesale backhaul until the traffic hits the outside world gateways. That wold explain lots of things.
