Router confusion

When I joined PN VDSL they sent me the standard pre-configured thompson router. Which connected to an ECI modem.

I later changed to a Billion 8800nl modem/router. I accept that I had to set up my username and password in the router in order to connect to PN.

Having just checked the page where these details were entered, I find both boxes empty! My connection is working fine which is why I'm confused.

Just checked with mine and under Quick Start they are there

Maybe plusnet doesn't need these anymore, as they know which line you are connecting from.

Some routers can connect with empty fields with many ISPs now; I think if you're with BT or EE they don't need a logon. Most BT routers all come with the same login hard coded.

That's where I looked. I wonder if it's because I have a static IP address.
