In reply to a post by MrPete:
<big snip>
I am tempted to move ISPs, but my static IP Address is tied into so many systems it would make it hard work moving. Shame you can't port IP addresses!

Have you considered buying a dynamic DNS entry (e.g. with Dyn) and configuring everything which currently uses your static IP to use the name instead? When you move, or subsequently change IP address, the name will soon pick up the changed address. Deals with many, but not all, of the problems of having a dynamic IP address.

Given its a static IP, just buy a domain name and set up a normal A record in DNS pointing at the static IP. Then if you move ISP, change the A record. Set the TTL to something sensible, and done.

No need to run a DynDNS client at all.

So within the range BT Wholesale think the line will see.

Crosstalk is such that over time speeds will drop as more people in your cable bundle order the service, vectoring can mitigate this, but only on certain cabinets at this time.

Thanks for all the comments.

I do have a few domains that have A Records that resolve back to my IP Address.
My main issue is clients who have added my IP Address to allow me remote access to them, I need to get them to update to use one of the A Records.

As for my speed, I'll have to see if it settles at this or drops any further.

Thanks

this is the reason i left bt, after months of being connected at 79999/19999, we started to get a speed decrease to then have an engineer point blank lie to me saying i could never get those speeds as i was too far from the cab... yet i had an unlocked modem which reported a max attainable of 83000 before the issue arose.

anyhow the max attainable dropped to 71000 and i was only seeing 60Mbps so i ditched them for virgin media, which was spot on until this christmas -_- so now im stuck, i either have less speed and more consistent ping, or stay with vm, get amazing speeds but fluctuating ping.

So you had 60mbps which is more than most and you jumped in to the cauldron that is VM.

Oh dear!

Was Eclipse Home Option 1, VM 2Mb & O2 Standard
Now Utility Warehouse (up to 16mbps) via Talk Talk

Max attainable rate is a notional figure which is affected by many things and cannot be trusted.
