After reading this

http://www.broadband.co.uk/broadband/providers/plusn...

I've stopped myself hitting the order button. is it really as bad as they say?

Look at reviews for other providers on that site, in fact look at this pageand look at the stars other providers have got and you will most are the same.
I am not saying plusnet is perfect, but it have been ok since i have been with them. Customer service I have not used for a while, but the mobile part was ok.

Plusnet customer service is pretty horrible. It's a lot better if you go through the forums because most of those staff know what they are doing and are keen to help but even there the official response time is 'up to 72 hours'.

The service itself (at least for me) is very good. Hardly ever any peak time slow downs. Almost no faults. For £23pcm it's doing all I need.

Thanks Zyborg and Andrue for the replies.

I will look at it again. it is my hope that I will get similar to the BT connection I've had which has been faultless apart from 1 congestion issue they sorted promptly. But I had to get the CEO involved for that.

I guess if it goes wrong and I am stuck in the 18 months, the price rise will help me out.

In theory nothing about your connection should change. The only times I've had issues with PN were the first half of 2015 and a couple of times during October/November last year. In both cases some kind of PN network configuration issue meant that single threaded downloads ran a lot slower than multi-threaded.

In the 2015 incident I was hit by this perhaps once a month. But all I had to do was bounce my connection and it was cured for another month. Some users seemed to get hit by this on a weekly basis. My guess was that my connection is generally rock solid (it got to over 100 days uptime last year) whereas other people's drop on a weekly basis. However on at least one occasion I got hit even though my connection hadn't dropped. Last year I was only affected once.

It's slightly perturbing that PN never seemed sure how they fixed the '15 incident (and never actually said they were sure they had) and that there's been even less information about last year's incident. But for me at least it means that after nearly three years I've only had perhaps a dozen incidents and all could be cured 'on demand' by bouncing my connection.

But I would be wary of recommending anyone join PN if there's any history of connection issues or if they aren't technical savvy enough to know how to press their case.

Thanks,

It's the gateway hopping that I couldn't be bothered to do - if that's really what is needed then I will continue to look around.

I am not sure if I should just drop this connection or not. (BT) I just liked the idea of what I have now at 50% off per month /year

I never suffered from the 2015 single-threading problem, despite over time being on many different gateways.

I got fed up with the combination of many disturbing things like that going on and the ongoing introduction of the bng gateways with no apparent Plusnet concern about the fact they did not support IPv6. (Do they yet?) I was on the IPv6 trial for a while before those came along, but in the end gave up trying to get onto a gateway that supported it.

My biggest fear has been realised, the almost complete collapse of an acceptable CS system. I get few technical problems I can't handle myself, but having no useful (official) backup from Plusnet that could help with more serious matters in a timely and efficient manner had me very worried.

So I walked.

Hence the question at http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/plusnet/t/4525794-r...

Remove post you add fuel to the 'in collusion with PlusNet camp', don't remove and you get accused of allowing people to get away with it.

I questioned him, and numerous others have, and thus the conclusion is that this is speculation, or just a topic to bait people.

I suggest you tell us what the basis for this is?

If something has fell out of a dumpster then an email explaining source is sufficient, and given September is nine months away even if some official source it would be extremely prudent to highlight that it is a rumour. Or put another way this could easily be fact leak to find out who is a leaking sieve at a provider and/or illicit customer reaction

It's tempting to change but I'm struggling to find a deal that comes close to what I have with PN+Pulse8.

£37pcm for broadband+phone is hard to beat. Especially since if I moved I'd need it to be to an ISP I trust and one that offers static IP addresses t 80/20. IDNet would be my primary choice but that's a 50% price rise and I don't even get unlimited usage for that :-/
