Re: Plusnet Broadband Price

In reply to a post by Andrue:
It's tempting to change but I'm struggling to find a deal that comes close to what I have with PN+Pulse8.

£37pcm for broadband+phone is hard to beat.

Well PN are doing it for 28.. It's full price for the LR 9£17,99) but the discount is on the internet (£10.01)

Not that it makes it as soon as Pulse8 when you consider the 18 month contact. After the 18 months it's £37.98.

So it's going up £2 versus today?

If you've proof then send it to Andrew. Otherwise it looks like a pretty logical guess that most of us on here could make.

This is the downside of the combined pricing on line rental and broadband. Before we got £1 extra on line rental, but broadband was often fixed at key price points like £10, 15, 20 etc. Now there is no standard price for anything they can bump it all up more.

Indeed, just like BT are doing in April, no change to LR but £2.50 to Infinity.

Maybe it's better to have separate companies for each? Although bundle pricing often is better.

The combined pricing arose from long protracted campaigns by various bodies, so don't see it being reversed, but nothing to stop most retailers offer a broadband with any WLR provider, and Plusnet do just that, but with a surcharge of £2.50

My inclination would have been for one of you to post a reply to the original post saying the topic is pure speculation with no hard evidence and lock the topic.

If the adslmax subsequently provided evidence direct to you the topic could be unlocked (but we know that won't happen!).

If someone (including the OP) had started a topic "Will Plusnet follow BT and raise prices?" he could have posted his guesses along with anyone else.

Unless a new visitor to these forums read the whole topic and the OP's previous contributions they could easily be misled in to thinking Plusnet had announced their price rises.

I think it's a good thing. I just worry that come September they will want to stop me leaving. Maybe I am just being stupid? Joining an ISP in the hope that the price rise will get me out of it if it's pants?

If that is your plan - DON'T take the Line Rental Saver option!

You would not be affected by a line rental price increase later this year and so wouldn't get the get out of jail free card.

But if I didn't take LRS then I would get it?

I signed up just before midnight to get the offer and will see how things go if it works as good as infinity does I should never have a reason to leave. I had 4-5 price rises with BT but to be honest when it starts to hit the £50 a month cap and beyond I start to look around. And BT was going to be nearly £53 from April. Too much

The thing to do assuming you stay, is at the end of the deal term or minimum term, whichever is the longer, first try for a decent retention deal, though those now seem hard to get - they were ridiculously easy and cheap in the past, and if you can't then switch your phone to Pulse8 like I and jelv and I think some others did.

It sends the broadband cost up a bit when you take the phone away. £2.50 on FTTC and £2.50-£3.50 it seems on ADSLx. Though if you have signed up to a bundle, as you have, it's £2.50. It's joining on ADSLx without their phone service on a minimum term contract that gets the £3.50. I suspect that is a website error.

You need to update this forum and bring it in line with the times, namely an upvote/downvote (like/dislike) rank for each post. Like stackoverflow.com / reddit. That allows people to do this job for you. People will very quickly decide what is valuable information and what is not, and you as a moderator do not need to lift a finger.
