You need to update this forum and bring it in line with the times, namely an upvote/downvote (like/dislike) rank for each post. Like stackoverflow.com / reddit. That allows people to do this job for you. People will very quickly decide what is valuable information and what is not, and you as a moderator do not need to lift a finger.

I thought that would bne a good idea, but to be honest it is not, one of the large forums I go is going to do that, i think it will be a disaster, that is if the eventually get it working.

The problem with that on a technical forum, particularly one on broadband, is the number of myths that are around. Because so many people believe them, when repeated they are likely to get Likes. Making the problem worse.

Until a few posts ago the OP would have being getting more Likes than Dislikes, particulary once he made the detailed prices post. Completely out of his racing tips handbook.

Stack Overflow works because it's a technical exchange, reddit sort of works but because a sub-reddit may be about the exchange of opinions you get downvotes/upvotes because of what you say and who you are - whether you are right or wrong.

There are people here who will be irritated by other members and downvote automatically - and people may avoid speaking their mind because of downvotes. Some sub-reddits have an upvote only rule and maybe that works better than normal?

Re: Plusnet Broadband Price

[re: RobertoS] [link to this post]

Thanks for the advice, I hope I do stay. I am also hoping I get the same actual connection quality and speed as I get now. but the gateway issues are something I will have to deal with if/when it happens. All said and done it's still saving over the course of 12 months (comparable to BT) Just shy of £252 which is good considering all it does right now is feed the TV and every other device my wife uses. My connection is my own

I could have gone for 40mbps which would have been £23 but I would prefer the extra speed. I am doing this as a cheap way to try and see if I would bust AA's limit would being stuck in a 12 month £720 contract. if I do keep hitting 1TB then as you know I could end up spending 1/1-3/4 of my month stuck at 3mbps which would be no good for anyone. And I can't exactly ask the wife and kids to watch certain TV at a certain time because there is no bandwidth to power it all. We do have freesat but as I am sure you also know IPTV is such a better range and then some.

I have until the 6th of Feb to cancel if I decide not to go ahead with it. I had the e-mail from BT to say there would be no ETF's so that's something.

In regards to the £2.50 that's what I was quoted when I did choose that I didn't want home phone.

I pressed done before I had finished hence the edit. BT also said no equipment was due to be returned in the same e-mail, so whilst I do have the 8800NL and the talktalk router that comes with TTB, am I right in thinking the HH5B and even my current HH6 would work with plusnet?

I'd rather keep my 8800NL on the TTB line as you know it's a little work horse and into the 60s now when it comes to days of uptime. Then again.. I don't want the 14 day reboots of the HH6 (which I think is BT WIFI related)

Can't help re the Home Hubs sorry. But in case you don't know, the Plusnet Hub One is a rebadged BT Home Hub of some ilk.

I think in your position I'd get another 8800NL R2.

I'm not up to date with the Plusnet usage meter, but in recent weeks it seems to be a bit of a dodgy beast. Has it been fixed do you know?

I can only go off my dad's usage meter which stopped working but started to work on the day of his fault before it started, and when the fault was fixed.

Apparently the HH5 can be used, but yes I would be inclined to agree with you in regards to the Billion, The TalkTalk router was free and is good for backup but that can be hacked. The HH's tend to reboot every 14 days but that did stop for me after I turned off BT FON, it's been turned on again since by BT and now my details don't work to let me in to turn it off.

8800NL and 8800 NL R2 it is.

I know you have one - and I get all my stuff from Amazon, surprisingly for me the R2 is only 19p more. I like the look of the black better smile

Sets a very dangerous precedent as people like to speculate on what might happen in the future and doing it for this thread would mean lots of others too. This also raises the danger then that by implication if we have not locked a thread in a time frame that we have hard evidence its true when in fact it may simply be we have not see the post.

Essentially you are asking for fully moderated and post approval with extensive fact checking, or put another way with a large team to look into all the claims made and likely increased need to access legal resources there would be a price to pay to make a post.

Enough people questioned the topic early enough that to anyone reading for more than a few seconds it was clear lots of people had questions on the original post.

Mine's just gone up by 100%, as my 76/20 fibre 'deal' expired last week, so instead of paying £10 I'm now paying £19.99 (plus line rental of course)

Of course, there are no similar deals to be had with customer options, and they wouldn't match the £28 all-in price they had for new customers last week. The guy said that the business model is unsustainable and they can't offer it to existing customers.

All they can offer is £14.99 for a new 2-year contract. Hmm..

The service is brilliant however, rock solid at my end full-speed (I'm fairly close to the cab) so reluctant to move. Was considering Vodafone as my mobile is with them, but heard nothing but horror stories..

The usage metering is still deliberately disabled across a number of gateways for those on unlimited tariffs.Plusnet haven't found a solution yet to the packet loss on certain gateways when it has enabled accounting on said gateways.

The older issue of usage randomly stop/starting still exists. Hence 23prince's dads is now working while mine (and 1000's others) aren't. Two different issues.

Thanks, I wondered about this, the gateway seems to be the key. My Plusnet usage meter stopped working about six weeks ago when I was moved from gateway 01 to gateway psb-bng04 following a two-hour mains power outage which affected most of our area.

If it helps anyone, we've had a PN package for a couple of years, unlimited ADSL2, anytime calls, caller display and line rental paid in advance. Before Christmas I renewed at continued same price of £27.50 pm including line rental, on a two year contract. We consider this fair value for what we get and speed of 10Mb is adequate for all we want. Even to renew took almost an hour on the line to the call centre so we've no intention of calling again to upgrade to fibre; as the old adage says, if it's not broke don't fix it.
