OK, been aware of this since it was first posted, but only just had the official email from PN themselves.

To ask a rather obvious question (with apologies if it's already been asked and answered elsewhere), if I take up LRS prior to 29th Jun, can I avoid this price increase - at least until next year?

It seems a fairly straightforward "yes" - I'm not on LRS at the moment, as I failed to renew it when it became clear the saving was smaller than it had ever been. So it looks as if I could sign up at any time before 29th Jun (preferably the 28th), and fix at today's prices.

Just want to check if there's anything I'm overlooking, really.

Edit: judging by Apprentice's subsequent posts, it seems I am, probably.

If prices for existing LRS customers were being held, I guess they wouldn't be offering him a get-out and a pro-rata refund of monies already paid.

So I guess that's a no, then. Can't beat the increase by signing up to LRS quickly. frown

Login to your PN account and see what the cost of LRS will be for you just now.

Login first remember: https://www.plus.net/apps/linerental/saver/portal

The refund offered on unused months of LRS is if I leave PN to migrate BB and LR to a new ISP.

You've lost me. If you sign up for LRS before it goes up, then you have fixed the price for 12 months, obviously.

But I thought your grounds for leaving would be that the price was rising - no?

I know they have made some changes to call charges as well - which won't affect me as much, as I'm a low user. It's the line rental that clobbers me every time, because you pay it before you've even made a call.

Left BT (for landline) because of this trend of ever increasing line rental - which, like the standing charge for other utilities, hits low users disproportionately.

As you aren't on LRS at the moment you could simply move your line rental to Pulse8 like a few of us did. Your broadband would increase by (I think) £2.50pm, maybe £3.50pm, but Pulse8 is £13 plus £1 caller display if you want it, and call charges are 1p per minute charged by the second, with no call setup costs. 0.8ppm off-peak. Basic 1571 is included.

My typical monthly bill is £14.02.

Well, I didn't find it that obvious, or I wouldn't have bothered to ask. I thought that it was "probable", but it would be sensible to check I'm not missing anything.

Then I saw Apprentice's post about he (assuming it's a he) having apparently secured a release from his contract on the grounds of the changes, even though he's already on LRS.

That seemed to suggest LRS customers wouldn't, in fact, escape the hike.

Ah, there's something relevant that you don't know. Up until recently if you left because broadband went up then you didn't get a refund on unused LRS months. You weren't prevented from leaving but it cost you.

Following Ofcom sitting on BT who did the same both BT and Plusnet give LRS outstanding month refunds if you leave because of broadband price rises. It was a dirty trick that has been stopped.

You mean you migrated just the landline, and paid PN's premium for not taking phone & BB both?

Time to get the calculator out. At present, I make few calls, and exploit free evenings and weekends to the max, to make those few I do have to. Not all calls can be conveniently scheduled off-peak, but most can.
