Harder to get new dynamic IP?

I recently upgraded my router from a ASUS N66U to the AC86U. Traditionally I found it was relatively easy to change IPs, a quick connection flick off and on did the job.

These days it appears to be much harder. Initially I thought it might be something new router related. However, a quick dig into the Plusnet forums suggests when your exchange is put on the new(est) BT network the pool of IPs is greatly reduced or effectively localised.

Now these posts were from a couple of years back. I'd have thought my exchange would have been switched some time ago. So I'm wondering why I'm only noticing it now? Possibly because I've been fiddling with settings etc

I kinda prefer things as they were, being able to quickly switch. Keeping things turned off for a long period to force a change is a bit inconvenient.

Anyway, have others seen a further reduction in the IP pools?

I wouldn't say recycling the IP once a month to be overly excessive.

Faking the mac address causes an inability to connect. I'm not au fait with the ins and outs as it's not something I'd look to alter.

Though after changing the settings back to the default, I've ended up on a different gateway and range. Perhaps (channelling Mr Punch), that's the way to do it!

I would. What are you doing that warrants a frequent change of IP address?

Who knew the level of intrigue in my IP change!. But I'll bite.

I make the vast majority of my earnings from gambling sites. They are known to track at IP level, therefore a periodic switch is in my interest.

If you want to mask your identity from the gambling sites, then why not use a couple of VPN services - switching say on a bi-weekly basis...

Although I'm aware some do, personally I wouldn't use a VPN with any betting site. Used to be the case, maybe still is, that Bet365 for example, won't function properly using one or you'll get flagged.

Using mobile data is preferable and I do use it for certain things.
