Re: cap on Plusnet speeds?

[re: jchamier] [link to this post]

The odd thing is my SNR is the same now as it was with the SH6 (6dB or thereabouts) and I have had 80/20 since the day the cabinet went live (I was customer number 1 on it) with the exception of a few days when BT managed to downgrade me to ADSL (a lowly 2Mbps due to very poor cabling from cab to exchange) when I recontracted last time (they did the same the year before too) and the FTTC came back at 65Mbps. This was fixed when the engineer recabled the line at the cabinet (the benefit of this being a BT Exec office complaint got things done that usually wouldn't have been). The line is usually rock solid, and the drops I have seen in the BT line all appeared to be BT initiated router reboots in the small hours.

Using my TP-Link Archer will also give me the benefit of some better stats because as you say, the BT and Plusnet routers do not give the best information. Their interfaces are dumbed down so they do not cause problems for less technical customers. I like knowing what is happening and be able to work out why so I can either fix it or realise it is something out of my control and that will have to be lived with (e.g. an ADSL connection at work is being hammered by the lifts so it is a live with it situation, but now I know I don't spend time trying to work out what I can do to try and fix it).

Likewise is why I used an unlocked HG612 modem and DSLstats !

In reply to a post by RobertoS:
It seems that these days an FTTC migration, even like-to-like, triggers interleaving. That would account for the loss.

If you were on G.INP previously it should return in 3-4 days.
it shouldn't do, if the same stability profile is used by both providers and both are using BTWholesale wmbc etc, Any BTW to GEA migration or the reverse of, will trigger a DLM reset even with the same provider

When Zen decided to migrate my vdsl2 service from WBMC to GEA, i lost G.inp for nearly 2 weeks , and the same thing after they reverted that migration

I think I know what you are trying to say, tommy, but Openreach only offers GEA. Which is used by BTW, Sky, TT, Vodafone, Zen and no doubt a few others.

VDSL2 in this country is all GEA. So is Openreach FTTP.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - AAISP Home::1 80/20. 200GB. Sync 68543/12313Kbps @ 600m. BQMs - IPv4 & IPv6

In reply to a post by MCM:
Out of curiosity how did BT "inform you"? Did you call them?

Yes, I called retentions to see if they could come up with a good offer.
It was the girl on retentions who 'informed' me of this cap.

Moved from PlusNet back to BT. Both gave decent service.

Should be reported to Ofcom.
