Average downtime when changing isp.

Hi All.
I�m moving to Plusnet today. My sky fttc broadband went down for The first time since it was installed today at 9:30. I was kind of hoping for a few minutes of downtime but that has not been the case. What is all your experiences downtimes when switching ISP.

I know that I need to wait until midnight, but as the line went down early I thought it would�ve been a straight switch.

Down as in lost sync? Or got sync but no Internet connection?

On switch over days some providers are known for turning off access (but leaving sync intact) and some are known for being slow to switch on access even after moving across.

Should usually be a short 30 minute gap in service if both providers are not playing the game outlined above

Plusnet frequently do not activate the account until midnight of the expected day. They should do it at 00:01 of that day, not 23:59+.

Try ringing support. It just needs them to activate your account.

They should get a notification from Openreach that the move has completed, but I get the feeling from history that PN only requests a bulk feed at the end of the day .

Edit: Or maybe quicker through social media these days - whichever one they prefer. I think it's Twitter.

Or in my mother's case recently (moving from TalkTalk ADSL to PN ADSL) only after I phoned PN the following day at 14:30 hrs. Not very impressive, the line had been syncing fine since TT re jumpered her at about 4pm
on the day before, PN hadn't, and didn't until I phoned enabled her account. It burst into live before I'd put the phone down to them.

Sync remained up, at least according to my TP-Link vr900 it did.
I received a message saying to check my username/ password. I then changed the settings and rebooted to Plusnet config and it�s been down since. I will be home in a minute and call them. If I login to my account then does at its not active yet.

Just one more thing, can anyone recall if the password to the Plusnet member centre is the same as your broadband dsl login.

Yes.

It's worth checking you have set the username in your router correctly. username@plusdsl.net

I frequently got it wrong when replacing the router.

All - I�ve called Plusnet and they advised the phone has been switched over but are still awaiting confirmation that the broadband has been moved.

They did say some jumpering or physical change also is required in the exchange.
Will just wait & see.

Ok, I�ve just this second had confirmation my broadband has also gone live. Initially I was using the tplink but thought I would use the Plusnet one hub to get started. So far it�s not working. I will have a play and report back.
