GW 10.10.10.10

[link to this post]

Hi,

One of our customers is having internet issues at the moment, and unfortunately the Plusnet reseller is very unhelpful.

The DSL is in sync and is being given a WAN IP.

However I've noticed that the gateway assigned to the router is 10.10.10.10... which seems wrong (and is different to the gateway assigned to other Plusnet customers).

Wondering if anyone recognises that gateway IP?

Thanks

10.x.y.z is a private IP address. Just like 192.168.x.y.If your network is intended to work with IP addresses in this range it's fine.

Assuming Windows, from a command line window type IPCONFIG. This will tell you the gateway address and your own IP address. Can also trying pinging the gateway from the command prompt. It should respond.I don't know the equivalent tests for Mac. I think it's IFCONFIG for Linux.

For the PC I'm using at the moment the gateway is 192.168.1.1 and my IP address is 192.168.1.104 which was allocated automatically by my router using DHCP.

Thats why it seems wrong! Its the IP address being given to the router. The customers server is handling the internal DHCP.
This is what the router is getting.

Sounds like a config issue at the resellers or Plusnet's end. Though if this were the case I'd expect their respective forums to be full of people with the same issues.

If the customer is handling DHCP then it's not like a standard doemstic installation where the router's default settings will usually be OK if the router is supplied by the ISP.

If the customer is capable of running a DHCP server then they ought to be capable of logging into the router and configuring it to set the gateway and switch off its DHCP.

Have you not looked at the image?
The OP says they are getting a 10.10.10.10 gateway on the WAN (xDSL) of the router.
There is nowhere you can manually set this in a DrayTek router.
It is definitely an issue the ISP side.

I don't know Plusnet's entire network setup but they normally do assign a private IP for the WAN gateway, albeit not normally in the 10.0.0.0/8 range.

Turns out the reseller had performed some form of migration resulting in a new set of IP details (and possibly new username/password) but hadn't told us.

Once the router was updated with the new details - started working.

Thank you all for your responses.

I initially considered that too, until, as others have mentioned, I saw the 10.10.10.10 IP was obtained on the WAN side and not the LAN side, thus nothing to do with the LAN DHCP server.
