Re: Cancellation charges whilst in contract

Plus a very long list of bog-standard startup messages in his Windows event log smile.

I once managed to get an "agent" going for 35 minutes until we finally got to that page. He then told me that list was all caused by virus attacks. Then gave me their website to download a fix that would clear it and stop it happening again.

I got him to go through the URL slowly a few times to make sure I wrote it down correctly. Having got it first time tongue. The other repetitions gave me time to WHOIS it (in the days when those still gave full name and address details) and to do another couple of searches.

Finally I said I wasn't happy about that website, and gave him the name of the registrant and the location of the site host.

He was quite annoyed, judging by what came into my ear smile.

Connections: OnePlus 8 Pro on Three 4+ (LTE)/5G and at home Three Mobile, with (Three)ZTE MF286D router giving about 113/20Mbps.

If I were you, I would ring the retentions team and talk it through with them. If they are sure you are seriously considering leaving they may find a way to accomodate you smile

+1
I pay Plusnet just less than £20 pm for broadband and phone. It was a price match to Vodafone when I agree the 2 year contract.

I managed to get my Fibre Extra broadband down to a nominal £1.78 at my last renewal by price matching against ... Plusnet!

It includes both the line rental and broadband part however it is cheaper than £29 x 10 months.

Providers must now discount early termination fees by the savings they make on their wholesale costs from you no longer taking their services.

They can't charge VAT on the 'surrenderd' remainder of the contract either. (You can't charge VAT for a service that hasn't been provided) so that's also factored into the equation.

They charge VAT on the calculated final bill, just not on reduction.

We take your monthly charge*, including any discounts.
We then deduct the current rate of VAT.
We then reduce the charge to take account of any costs we save because of you leaving early, such as wholesale costs.
We then deduct 1% for early payment.
We multiply this figure by the remaining months of your minimum term to get the final charge you owe. Any part month will be charged daily on a pro rata basis.
We add the current rate of VAT to the final amount.
Any remaining credit on your account will be taken off your total.
