Anyone update password recently?

[link to this post]

Does changing the password in the Plusnet portal also change the password that you have in your router?

Has anyone done this recently - does it work and did it take long for the new router password to become active?

Thanks

I don't think it does - a quick search on the PN portal doesn't come up with a definitive answer I could find quickly.
Best to ask on the PN Forum, perhaps.

I believe that it does and should take effect immediately but it probably won't drop your current connection.

So you have had 2 replies which are opposites, I am not too sure what you are actually asking.

Here is my interpretation.

The router password and the portal (Member Centre) password have to be the same.

If you change the member centre password a Plusnet supplied router which is on the TR-069 management platform will get updated with the new password, don't know if it's immediately or over night. As kasg says it will not affect your current connection.

As for the password becoming active, not sure what you mean, a password is only used when connecting to the Broadband account so you can have the wrong password in your router as long has the connection doesn't drop.

If your router is not a Plusnet supplied one or is not being updated by the TR069 system then the router password has to be updated manually, again it only needs to be correct when re-connecting after an outage.

Thanks for replies. Sorry if I was not clear - yes this is why I am asking. I want to know if Plusnet systems are up to the task of ensuring that the systems that authenticate the router password and the portal are updated in real time (if they are not the same). I do not want to be updating the password on the portal and immediately changing my router password (using own router and this will force a reconnect) and not being able to do so.

I have just done it and got a message that the password would be changed on my router, if the router is not on then change it yourself, my router is not a normal plusnet supplied router, so I had to change it on my router manually, it worked fine.
This is the message i got after I changed the password.

Your password has changed - this is effective immediately.

You'll need to update the password for your:

Broadband router
Email application
Webspace

If your router is connected to the Internet now, the password it uses will be updated automatically, you may lose connection for a few seconds while this happens.

If your router is not connected, you'll need to update the stored password yourself, if you're not sure how to do this, take a look at our Router guides or give us a call.

I meant to do this months ago to be honest as my password is very easy to guess, so seeing your post got me to do it, thanks
