How can i find out Max Exchange speed For SKy????

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know of a Website address, that you can find out the maximum Speed the Kingsmead Exhange can reach for Sky?

I'm still having issues with a speed of 1.1 Meg! Yep paying for Mid Package for up to 8 Meg!

Are you actually on Mid or on Connect until your exchange is LLU? This will tell you if your exchange is unbundled and if you use the postcode part it will tell you how far you are from the exchange as the crow flies.

Hi,

Connection is LLU, I'm 2.5 Km from exchange and are on the Sky Broadband Mid not Connect.

Check your exchange congestion status and your potential line speed Here on one of many checkers but as your are LLU I'm not sure they are of much use; let's see what others have to say.

HI,

Thanks for those web links, Exchange congestion is green!

and according to freola, i can get up to 3 meg Speed!

So i cant see what the problem is, getting 1 meg all of the time!

I sent a email to Sky, last night and what a surprise, so reply! i have also queried what the expected speed would be if i upgraded to Sky Broadband Max Package!!

The exchange congestion value is only useful if you are using a BT Wholesale product, so in this case its meaningless.

Login to the router and post the attenuation + noise margin figures. These can be used to estimate maximum speed and therefore see if you are being artificially limited.

Hi, Current Speed as of 21:14 pm Mon 19/3/07

The Line attenuation is constant at 59db or 60db

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1184 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 60.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 14.2 db 13.0 db

I phoned up sky Tech. The pratt did the usual tests and surprise surprise agreed that the speed at 1.1 Meg was quite slow!!!!!

Now raised to Tier 3 status! The guy asked me to go to Run - type in nestat in Bios??? any ideas what he was trying to achieve???

Your line attenuation is pretty high suggesting a very long line. Are you plugged into the master socket in your home? If the line attenuation truly is 60dB then you'll be pretty limited as to what speeds you can get.

Hi,

Filter is connected to master socket, RJ11 lead, 4 metres is plugged into Router! Not wireless!

Was on Telephone extension lead, no difference in attenuation! Since running tests since Feb, checking Router, Attenuation is always at 59db of 60db.

I'm wondering if its to do with External Bt Cabling, which is overhead lines??? or connection from outside to inside???

Any BT engineers out there?
