Sky Broadband

I am currently in the process of moving house and will be looking for a new ISP in my new house. I will no doubt be getting Sky when I move in, so wondered if it would be in my interest to take Sky Broadband.

Is Sky Broadband LLU? Does it work in the same way as Be Broadband, where they can change your SNR Margin etc. on the fly so when you restart your router the changes are automatically in effect?

My exchange will be 600metres from my house, what speed could I expect? I'd probably go for Sky Max.

I am an avid gamer, so am predominently looking at good pings! Can anyone post some pings to www.bbc.co.uk and www.jolt.co.uk up for me please.

Or have people had bad experiences of Sky Broadband, and suggest I stay away and got for Be Broadband.

My pings to both of those sites are 42ms (average). I dont think you can change your SNR like on Be, because you have to use the sky supplied router. I moved to Be to Sky a few weeks ago. With Be i was getting around 17meg, now on 10meg with sky.

You can change the SNR target on the old white Sky routers, but as far as I know not on the black ones that they now supply, but there's a website about that will determine your password and username from the info printed on the router, so you could use a different router that can be tweaked although that would probably be a breach of the T&Cs.
