[link to this post]

I was thinking of joining sky connect (non-LLU service) as i'm looking to save money (i currently 25) anyway when I put my number in there checker it said the most my line could support is 512. I currently get up to 1.5 pipex hence the question in the subject.

thanks for your help

Yes Sky Connect is BT's MAX service. My mate lives in a small town with no LLU, and he gets 8meg from Sky Connect.

They should put you on ADSL Max which will go as fast as your line allows at the time (within the confines of BT's profiling system). I thought the fixed speed products were pretty much deprecated.

For a general explanation see http://www.dslzoneuk.net/adslmax_explained.php

I think BT Wholesale now charge a higher monthly fee for the old fixed rate connections than they do for ADSLmax, so ISPs are unlikely to choose fixed.

Welcome to the Tiscali (Pipex) Datastream / LLU farce. Pipex / Tiscali have taken you off of ipstream and as such all the data held about your line has been invalidated by BT and its now pulling back default values for the phone number lookup tests.

Sky should put you onto ADSLMax and let the line sort itself out when using the connect package.

Do you have to use the router that sky send you or can you use you own router as I was thinking of getting this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BT-Business-Hub-2Wire-2700HGV-UNLOCKED-for-any-ISP_W0QQitemZ320247354810QQihZ011QQcategoryZ44997QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The T & C's say that you must use Sky's router, but there are thousands that don't. The biggest challenge for you will be extracting the user name and password from the router that Sky send you, because Sky won't tell you what they are.

Not really a challenge if you use this site. https://www.cm9.net/skypass/generate.cgi

I didn't say that it was an insurmountable challenge - my Sky router was powered up long enough to extract the login from it - since then it has resided in the cardboard box that it arrived in
