skys routers bridging

Hi my contract with virgin is finally up so thinking of switching to sky as its 1/3 of the price and i should get around 12-13 meg so ill be happy. The thing is i no sky dont allow you to use your own router i also no of the ways to get user names out of them but apparently the new routers dont allow this. So my question is do sky routers support bridge mode because i was thinking i could use my current wireless N cable router and just use the sky bit as a modem thanks for any replys.

The new D-Links have also been hacked.

I'd just use my own router as there has never been anyone kicked off for not using a sky router to my knowledge.

There was 1 post on skyuser.co.uk about one person getting kicked off but i don't know if its true


The sky routers are useless

I can confirm the new Sky Dlink has indeed been hacked and a small program can be used to extract your username and password, which work just fine with other routers

right thanks for the info guys main reason i wounded if i could just use my current router in bridge was just to save buying a new one i only bought the one i have a few month ago for like £50 but if its easy enough to extract i suppose might as well look at getting another one it will be nice to have it all in one box at least lol thanks again

another quick question what are the pings like with sky as i play wow and FEAR online and some times host my own room on FEAR so low pings would be nice im not that into ADSL so i dont no much about how to get best performance out of it for gaming we've always had cable broadband

I'm on the gaming profile with max delays set to 8ms and my ping is 35-38ms

This is around 5-10ms higher than i got on TalkTalk LLU

right thanks for replaying again thats fine TBH on VM most of time it between 60-130 lol some times goin down lower but not often so 35 would be fine for me ive just asked a friend and hes given me a belkin N1 ADSL router for free would this do the job my main need is the wireless N so i presume it will be all good

I have to say Sky's pings are solid day and night, also speeds are too.

Been with them now few months and always got the full speed from my line, and never any rise in pings even at peak times.

i actually already have that page thanks for the info anyway tho i think from the info im going to be happy we wont b getting rib of the cable internet till after sky is fitted anyway so if it turns out bad for me i can cancel in the 30 day period and stick with vm if it turns out fine then the cable will be going lol

How do you get onto the Gaming Profile?

I rang up the CST team and asked for it, DLM is useless, DLM capped me at 16.5mb, with Gaming Profile and SNR tweaked to 3dB i get the full 20mb. (2.1mb/sec)

I've also only seen the one post on skyuser, and if that's the same post I saw, there was a follow up post, by the person who's connection had been suspended - he rang back and was told the real reason was that he had a trojan on his PC sending out spam, and they reinstated the connection after he agreed to sort it out.

Thanks for that. I passed the info to my mate, who did the same and went from 9Mb to 19Mb

just an update to every one who helped me in the end vm gave me a 4 month half price on broadband so i stayed with them that's over now and ive finally ordered my new line with sky and the broadband unlimited package and got my N1 ready for activation just a quick question would i be better off waiting until the first 15days have passed or could i use it straight from day 1 thanks again for nay help

I am on fast path and ahve a ping of 13-17 to bbc and many games servers

Safer to use the Sky supplied router during the training period, and also connect it if you're calling for support.
