Slow sync for line stats and dissconections!

I joined sky unlimited about 2 weeks ago and after 10 days i had what seemed like a stable 14mb down and 1mb up sync but my pings seemed a bit high which is when i emailed sky and got them to put me on the gaming profile.

This dropped my connection to 10mb down and 765kbs up sync. My pings seemed to get slightly better.

I believed that my sync speed could reach 16-18mb though and emailed again with my line stats to see if anything could be done and they emailed back;

have checked your account and see that the maximum speed which can be configured on your line is 14.3mbps. I would like to inform you that since your profile was changed to gaming profile the ping rate will increase but the speed has got reduced. Hence, I have changed your profile to the normal profile and have re-configured the line speed, as of now you will receive 13.2 mbps

Since this email i have had a lot of disconnections every 10-15 minutes, here is my line stats currently,

My line attenuation goes down to 25 some times and up to 35 when looking after the random disconnections im having.

Can any one shed any light on whats happening ?

Just to update,

got disconnected while playing a online game and it tried to sync about 5-6 times, i watched as it tried different speeds and attenuation settings, connections lasted about 5-10 seconds until it tried with different settings, i copied and pasted as i watched.

Seems to have stuck on the last one....

Not an expert on copper line engineering myself but that would sound like a high resistance fault or a bad joint somewhere - i.e. something physically wrong with your line.

Do you notice any problems with the phone service as well during the bad periods?

Attenuation should be pretty constant and not flucuating like this for sure. Could be a bad joint on the line or could be modem simply mis reporting the data

When Sky notices instability they often change the modulation e.g. take you off ADSL 2+... DLM does this

That COULD account for the change in attenuation. Or it could be indicative of something much worse...

Given speeds are not ADSL type, then can discount this

Sorry for such a late update been very busy!

Turned out to be a bad filter, changed it to one from my old house and its now stable and rock solid and syncing at 16mb (which it is capped at apparently)
