Before i move to Sky

[link to this post]

I am currently on a fixed 2 MB line with Entanet. When I have tried an 'up to 8MB' product (with more than one ISP I may add) I have had nothing but trouble. Dropped connections and very slow speeds due to BT profile problems. My line is not good and that has been the source of the problem.

If I move to Sky (it will be the Max product if I do) will I have the option down the road to go to a fixed speed if I get the same issues. My line can handle 2MB no problem at all, but anything above that and it started going down. Now this all happened approx 2 years ago so maybe things have changed and my line can handle more now but I'm wary of moving and getting the same terrible disconnections.

Also, If I take Sky Talk at the same time as Max will I have any activation fees waived? Ideally I want to move to Sky and have no connection fees to pay.

Hope you can help

Unfortunately the name "Max" is confusing when talking about Sky broadband, because they do two products Sky Connect, which uses ADSL Max technology, and Sky Max, which is an LLU product which is only available at some exchanges.

If you're talking about Sky Connect, this is only a resale of a BT product, so if you have had line profile issues before, then you are likely to again.

If you're talking about Sky Max LLU, then there are no line profiles, but your connection will still be at the mercy of the quality of your line. The difference is that with Sky LLU you get the speed that you sync at (minus the inevitable TCP/IP overheads, of course), so during the day, when lines are often at their best, you can re-sync and get the best speed possible for the line.

Re your second question about connection charges - only Sky can tell you that, because their charges do vary, depending on the packages you're buying and have already got, and it has been known for them to strike deals with customers.

Just to point out the the Sky LLU "Max" at 10 pm would only give you the option of "unlimited" downloads and you would not be offered the ADSL+2 variant as you have such a poor line.

Unless the "unlimited" angle appeals you would be better of on the "Mid" 5 pm option with an allowance of 40Gb.
