Cancel SKY Broadband???

I have just found out that my exchange is beginning a rollout of FTTC:

I signed up to Sky broadband two months ago. Can I cancel and get out of my 12 month contract before the 12 months are up? I signed up to just Broadband, no TV and no line rental.

Obviously I would prefer to sign up to a 40Mbps deal at some point, rather than stay with my current 8192Kbps
Does anyone have any experience ending their contract early? What fees do they charge you?

The remainder of the contract would need to be paid.
If you call Sky and ask for MAC they should be able to tell you exactly what the fees are,I have seen some people state on forums they have had to pay the contract off and the installation cost.

I would hold your horses anyways for now.

Just because your exchange is going to be enabled it doesn't mean your cabinet will be.

We have finally got FTTC in my part of town and there has only been half a dozen cabinets near me that got upgraded, one was my cabinet thankfully the vast majority have not been upgraded in this phase of the rollout.

Also cabinets can take weeks if not months to be fully installed and go live, my cabinet took over 4 months from inital ground works to being able take orders.

So I'd say stick with Sky for now and keep an eye on what is going on in the local area.

"The latest upgrades are due to be completed by Autumn 2012 "

Sky will at some point offer FTTC themselves, and usually around only 40 to 80% of homes on an exchange will get fttc, once all the planned cabinets are enabled.

So sit tight for now.

Well if you are a bb adsl only SMPF then yes as said you would be liable for the remainder of any unused period, and if just canceling the service they may make a charge for a cease order on top, then you would be without any bb,

bt make announcements all the time their scheduled dates are always getting moved to later ones, so if i where you i would stay put for the min term as per contract as then providing you didn't opt to change anything that would enter you into a new contract with sky, you would just be on a rolling monthly contract so a 30 days notice and a mac code , once bt infinity is available to you
