Sky CDN

While streaming iPlayer on my Sky connection I noticed that it is not coming from the usual .. Akamai or Highwinds CDN's. It is actually streaming from a Sky IP address: 2.127.242.93 / host93-rangeB-level3-global.cdn.hobir.isp.sky.com. So I guess that Sky are running their own CDN now? Which would be good as Akamai performance is poor in the evenings, seen it drop to a few hundred kbps! Thing is even from Sky's own servers but it is not buffer free!

I've not seen any streaming problems on sky so far for iplayer (guess im luckly)

That looks like a Level3 cache hosted at Sky's Birmingham datacentre. iPlayer has been using Level3's CDN for a while.

Sky Broadband customers watching BT Sport also stream from IP addresses registered to Sky.
