Re: FTTC with Zen, Any Good??

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

I went from 7-8Mb I was getting on Be to 35-36Mb on Zen Fibre Pro, and very happy with it for the last four months. I really don't notice any drops in speed over the course of a day / evening / night, very consistent speed so far.

The biggest thing I have noticed is that my Wi-Fi is definitely a bottle neck now. With a laptop next to the router the speedtests are 35-36Mb. When I move the laptop downstairs and opposite side of the house the speedtest drops to nearer 7-8Mb. This is with a Draytek 2920n, and 802.11n enabled laptop.

If there was one thing to criticise it's the capped upload of only 2Mb (which shows as a consistent, real-world figure of 1.6Mb on my speedtests). I realise there's an attempt to differentiate products, but 100GB for £45 is steep, surely a few more Mb upload could be justified??

There's a price different that Zen will have to pay BT between a 2Mb/sec upload and 10Mb/sec upload package.

Zen seem to have differentiated their Office packages with the higher upload limit which seems a sensible thing to do although obviously some home users will want the higher upload speed there's nothing stopping them from ordering an office package.

AAISP are the ones that come to mind about having the best choice when it comes to the package with a £11.45 charge for the upgrade to 10Mb/sec.

I guess most wireless networks will start to cause slowdowns to FTTC/Virgin products at any range.

if you live near PLT, and/or when PLT becomes widespread, or you neighbours have BT Vision, expect to see horrendous 'slow downs' smile
