I have a Netgear DG834 like many of the people reporting similar problems in that thread. I changed the MTU like they suggested but it didn't work. When I changed it back to default it seemed to take ages to obtain an IP but when it did I was able to connect to MSN again. So far it's been working perfectly for several hours.

I have a DG834GT with MTU = 1492 and I have no trouble logging into Windows Live Messenger, which, I presume, is what you mean by MSN.

Yeah. On mine (v2) the defrault it 1458. It was sat to that when I was having problems, changed it to no effect, changed it back and now all is well.
