It senses what the CPE requests and gives it to you
I found that the auto detection was indicating it was a PPPoE connection

Errr yeah I get that mate but even when set to PPPoA which is presumably what it would request it does not connect at all.

Whether this router has a preference for PPPoE I don't know but its clear that noone here has seen this behaviour before.

I'll drop Zen support a quick e-mail to ask them to check the line profile.

You could try spoofing the MAC of the other router that connected PPPOA...

And the router you are using is?

Have you checked it is running a UK specific firmware, not an old one where the PPPoA stack is riddled with bugs

A netgear DGN2200 V1 picked up new from PC World on Friday evening.

Checked the firmware and its running the latest, 1.0.0.36

It was set to UK and am just going to re-run the auto detection to be sure

Well thats really odd.

After at least 6 manual resets since Friday its now decided to connect using PPPoA, sync has loweed a bit though.

Must have been some software weirdness, maybe I've got the buggy firmware finished on a Friday.

Did you try PPPoA with VC based?

I did but up until today it wouldn't take it.

It could have also been user error after having a busy week at work and being tired.
