I totally agree with you. It would also free up agents so that people who have more urgent issues can get through quickly on the phone.

Unless of course your internet or phone line is requiring repairs, Not everyone owns a SMART phone and as things are pushed into this digital age where privacy and freedom to choose are eroded more people will ditch them (ref to 4th industrial revolution)

If the customer's broadband and landline are not working, and they do not have a mobile phone, there is not much any ISP can do about their customer being unable to contact them. I suspect that most people would have a relative or friend who could help them in these circumstances.

This is what tickles me: "Not everyone owns a SMART phone and as things are pushed into this digital age where privacy and freedom to choose are eroded more people will ditch them".

So we are all going to scrap our mobiles? ROFL

Connections: OnePlus 8 Pro, 4G+ (LTE) max 165Mbps down, 24Mbps up on Three Mobile, and B311 4G+ router, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up.

Owning a SMART phone you loss you privacy and freedom?
What privacy do think you lost as soon out in public you have no real rights to privacy, if did then paparazzi wouldn't exists. In fact SMART phone give you privacy, you can turn it off or block something.
Freedom strange one that one is, what freedom have you lost again?
You can go anywhere with a SMART phone in the same way can without SMART phone. Name one place where can't go because you do have SMART phone.

I don't think the OP was making any comment about freedom, the comment was about "freedom to choose".

I guess that the Pegasus Spyware revelations do raise questions about privacy, but you are right, you do pretty much lose your right to privacy as soon as you go outside. CCTV and ANPR cameras are everywhere, following your every move. I very much doubt that people are going to be ditching their smartphones, now or in the future.

Did you mean to reply to the OP? Not myself.

Alright then, so how has a SMART phone changed "freedom to choose", what choose do you lose:-
Vote for SNP, Labour, Conservative, Church of the Militant Elvis Party?
Eat pizza, paster, chinese, fish and chips?
Play Cricket, Football, Darts, Chess?

I could go on but what "freedom to choose" do you lose or gain, with a SMART phone or without?

The term mobile phone was one with internet access in order be able to send and receive e-mails as most people have smart spy phones these days ,Though after this PING-demic i can see the older non internet capable phones making a return
