Probably due to Christmas lights etc, my BRAS got set at 5.5 with a SNR Margin of 10 dB and Loop Attn of 36.0 dB
Due an issue with incoming phone calls on my DrayTek 2800 Vigor VoIP router, changed the VoIP codec (seems to have got rid of the clicking) and decided to reboot the router to see if I could get a better sync.
Rebooted and got a synch of 7136 with the SNR Margin of 7 dB with same Line Attn.
Then received an email from A&A to say my BRAS is now 4.5
What are BT playing at? Surely a router reboot at a higher speed which suggests that the SNR Margin can be reduced should, not then have a slower BRAS imposed?
At least my exchange (Hawarden) is due for an upgrade to ADSL2+ at the end of this month.
Cheers!

ADSL2+ has been available there for ages.
How long for? My ISP and other ISP's websites say 31st March.
Cheers!

I think you might be looking at LLU!

I think you might be looking at LLU! who offer ADSL2+ and have done for years.
|
|
|
I wonder if that's what the OP meant...

I was fully aware that the LLU operators at Hawarden have ADSL2+ but as my signature denotes, I am with Andrews & Arnold and thus use the BT plant at the exchange. Yes, I am aware of Be at Hawarden, but in any event, do LLU operators have such a thing as BRAS?
My original 'look see' was Sam Knows.
Cheers!

You're using broadband via BT when you have all those lovely lovely options available? Are you mad?

I thought AAISP use BE?

They now offer Be, when I went with A&A the service was only via BT.

I'd love to know what the attraction is at this exchange. It's smaller than mine on a line count basis and is in the [censored]-end of nowhere, yet has multiple LLU, rfs set for WBC and is on the FTTC roadmap.
All I have to choose from is ADSL Max and TalkTalk

Hi Ancient_Mariner,
Would you like to pm me your line details and Ill have a look and see if we can get this sorted for you?
Thanks.

You have to laugh at BT don't you, perfect line here and since the rejumpering to get off the hot VP my IP profile is now 2000Kbps - pmsl it's like a soap opera, what a bunch of clowns BT are

Thanks Stuart, PM just sent.
Yesterday's sync may have been a bit ambitious; last night at 21:25 synch was lost and currently my router is synched at 5568 with a SNR Margin of 12 dB. (Same loop attn of course at 36.0 dB)
That said, between Dec 2007 and July 2010, My think broadband speed test graph was roughly 5.5 - presently my speed is 4.1
Noticed today workmen fitting a new BT green box. Sadly nowhere near the route that my line would follow. Hopefully FTTC will be round my way too when it is rolled out in Hawarden.
Cheers!

100gb limit on Vivaciti, not good enough for me. Can't check Xilo, as only Home/Office 20cn packages come up.
I'm a bit wary of the Opal resellers, anyone had any experience with these LLU services?

If you need more than 100GB all the time you can look at the file-share add-on, this makes the package unlimited.

Many thanks Stuart for your PMs and for resetting the SNR Margin.
Synch has improved and hopefully the BRAS will now come up.
My original whinge was aimed at BT - otherwise I would have contacted A&A direct. But for Customer Service, I do not believe that A&A can be equalled, let alone beaten.
Thanks again.
Looking forward to ADSL2+ and maybe FTTC before too long.
Cheers!

The above says it all really.
I have not seen a speed like that for some months.
Many, many thanks.
The BRAS is now 6.0
Only strange thing is that whilst the sync is now at 7232 and SNR Margin 7.0 dB the Loop Attn. has risen from 36.0 dB to 38.5 dB (as shown on DrayTek). My router is connected directly into a ADSL Nation filtered faceplate which I have not touched for at least a year.
Looking forward to ADSL2+ which may squeeze some more out of this line; which whilst not that long from the exchange, is rather old and of aluminium.
Cheers!
