A couple of questions

[link to this post]

I'm currently looking for a new broadband provider after suffering horrendous service from 02, AAISP looks like it could be viable but after getting my fingers burnt with 02 i'm cautious and have a couple of questions for current AA users.

I use my connection for 2 things, i play PS3 online and i chat to relatives on Yahoo Messenger, i have no interest in P2P, i rarely download videos except the occasional iPlayer video, PS3 online uses very little bandwidth so i'm not at all worried about the download limits, i'd never get even close to them, my concern is with the quality of service.

To enable playing online i need a connection that is stable, one that runs at 2meg or above and most importantly i need a connection with low latency, i'm currently getting pings of 350ms+ and speeds of 150kb during the evenings or at weekends with 02 and that makes gaming impossible. My line/connection isn't faulty because between 2am and 8am my pings drop to 40ms and my speed hits 6.5meg, i'm suffering from 02's severe congestion problems.

So, in short, i need a stable connection that runs at 2meg+ with low latency, am i likely to get that with AAISP?

Thank you for help.

Hello hemlock2005,

In short yes! What you ask for all sounds possible.

The speed will depend on your line, but if you have 2Mb or more with O2, then should be the same with us.

We constantly monitor ADSL lines, and as a customer you'll be able to see detailed loss/latency/usage graphs. These help vastly in identifying faults etc, so if you were to have problems we'd be able to resolve it one way or the other.
eg: see: http://aaisp.net.uk/kb-broadband-cqm.htm...

In terms of stability, we can control a few settings for the line that can help with this, for example Interleaving (forward error correction) can be enabled/disabled, and we can also adjust the stability options of the line.

Let me know if I can help further, we do have an IRC channel where you can 'chat' with other customers and get opinions from them too, for details of this, see: http://aaisp.net.uk/kb-irc.html
