Hello and is this normal?

[link to this post]

Hi All,
Migrated across yesterday from Zen with little problem except very poor speeds around 5:30pm which cleared around 7:00pm and am fairly pleased so far. The BRAS profile on my control panel seems to be just heading down at the mo' from 8M to 6M to 4M to 3.5M at present, is this normal? I'd just like to see it go up for once........
Am on 21CN by the way

Cheers for any replies,
Ian

Have a look at your AAISP Control Panel..... are you seeing lots of router restarts ? If the answer is YES, then you will need to find the cause, because every time your router disconnects and restarts, it will increase the SNR margin, which will result in a lower sync speed. Ideally, you need to connect your router to the master socket, with no extensions connected. If you have one of the new style BT faceplates, you can do this by removing the faceplate, and connecting to the test socket beneath the faceplate. If connecting to the test socket doesn't resolve the line instability, you will need to get on to AAISP Tech Support. Did you tell AAISP that your line had a problem when you migrated ?

Line is now down to 0.35M on BRAS profile. How does the auto adjust work, I've left it downloading a large file at 40kbps so was hoping that it might start going back up!

Or am I being over-optimistic

Your BRAS has now changed to 1M. Your line does look ill mind which is why the sync rate has been fluctuating so much, lots of errors and it looks like BT have now put you on a banded profile so I don't think sync will go back up until whatever is causing the errors is fixed.

Any noise/crackling on the voice side that you are aware of?

FYI the copper line test is failing (well the Insertion loss test)

Bt say on the subject of Insertion loss failures

'Insertion loss is base lined, by Openreach, during the provision of a broadband circuit or retrospectively for existing circuits. When a standard fault is reported through to Openreach they will also perform an insertion loss test to determine if the circuit has degraded by more than 6dB. Any lines that have degraded by more than 6dB will be accepted as a fault by Openreach and they will attempt to repair the circuit back to its original insertion loss measurement.'

So we should be able to get BT to investigate this.

Anyway will get Glenn to call you on Monday to discuss further

Thanks for the info,

Have just noticed that the download I started last night is now zooming along at 118kbps...
Is the swap to 21CN a physical reconnect as the line appeared rock solid all the time on my previous ADSL service? I'm thinking BTW have borked something.

Line noise is fine and doesn;t appear to crackle or anything - look forward to the call

Going from ADSL Max to 21CN is a change at the exchange.. So it is likely something happened at this point.

Could be a faulty tie-pair.
