Since this fault occurred last September / October, all my downloads from ANY sites are around 300 to 500kB/sec or less (with around 20% halting & failing).
However, I've just discovered that if I download something via
http://download.cnet.com/ where the actual download links to files in a sub directory of
http://software-files-a.cnet.com/
They all seem to download at around or in excess of 4MB/sec and so far have always finish without failing.
I don't normally use download.cnet.com because I use linux 99% of the time. But it was interesting that that is the only place I can get fast reliable downloads (which are of no use to me & just used as a random download test hehehe )
Traceroute may hold the key to this, I guess, in the respect that
http://software-files-a.cnet.com/ doesn't seem to go outside of the virgin / ntl network (someone correct me if i'm wrong):-
