The results are in, the only hardware that is different in each case is the router. Travel router = no packet loss, Asus router with firewall switched off = massive reported packet loss, it's very curious.

A quick update, my replacement router arrived today and is in place, packet loss is just as bad on BQM with the replacement. I've also sent a couple of thousand pings out to 8.8.8.8 with no packet loss so I'm at a loss as to what the problem is, if it's a clash between BQM and Asus routers I'm very surprised I'm the first one to report it, especially as MrSaffron also uses an Asus Perhaps it's just my model of Asus router? Seems unlikely though,

I'm also Asus, currently RT-AC88U with Merlin 384.10_2
I also have a ZyXel, the VMG1312-B10A used as a modem on my VDSL (FTTC) line from PlusNet.

Might be worth asking on the Merlin forums at SmallNetBuilder if they have any ideas.
